I know theres precious little film footage of Gatton playing, but can anyone recommend something.I know this guy has a great reputation and Id like to study him more.The broadest showcase of his best work with all his bands from Danny and the Fat Boys through the end of his life.Its a compilation, but includes some songs and takes not previously released.
Hot Rod Guitar: The Danny Gatton Anthology Later, live albums. The Blazing Telecasters albums with Tom Principato are interesting to the completeist, but arent as good re: recorded sound and playing. On Volume 2 the gig was the day of Dannys fathers funeral, but Danny did a therapeutic gig with the ES-350TD his father gave him and it was all cool. Recommended. Danny Gatton in Concert 9994, some pretty amazing stuff. Studio albums. They showcase what he could do and there are some really smokin takes. Cruisin Deuces Untouchable The early stuff with an LP Custom and an ES-350TD is different from his later playing. Generally has Buddy Emmons playing steel and sometimes its difficult to tell the steel from the guitar. Recommended. Danny Gattons Redneck Jazz Explosion, NRG Records, live recording. I played some Gatton for him and he asked: Whos playing pedal steel on that cut He was stunned to find out it was Danny on a Tele. AND a big favorite of mine is an album he did with B-3 player Joey Defrancesco called Relentless. ![]() My copy of Relentless is stuck in the CD player of my totaled Nissan in some junkyard. Also, Buddy Emmons playing is very guitar-like on many tracks, playing single notes with no glissando. His various bandmates still play in the DC area so make the trek out here and catch former members live.
